RFID Steel Bundle Tracking: Inventory, Picking and Dispatch

Steel bundles create different identification tasks during storage, picking and truck dispatch. The supplier reference describes tags on bundle sides, fixed collection of observations and handheld checks before lifting and release. Treat those as separate workflow requirements, then validate the tag attachment and read boundaries with your actual stock arrangement.

SOURCE-DESCRIBED SEQUENCE

Understand the workflow first.

A planning view of the supplier’s description. It does not confirm an installed configuration or measured project results.

  1. 01

    Identify the bundle

A side-mounted tag provides a bundle reference for warehouse records.

  2. 02

    Locate and verify

Staff use a backend area lookup and handheld verification before crane lifting.

  3. 03

    Check dispatch

A handheld check near the exit precedes the described truck release.

WHAT THE SOURCE SAYS

Published context.

  • Tags are attached to the sides of bundles of steel bars.
  • Wall-mounted readers collect tag observations and upload them to a backend.
  • Incoming and outgoing records include material quantity and model information.
  • Picking starts with a backend area lookup, followed by handheld verification before a crane lifts the selected bundles.
  • Loaded goods are checked again with a handheld near the warehouse exit before truck release.

RAVODEX PROCUREMENT ANALYSIS

Turn the reference into requirements.

These are planning inferences from the described workflow, not observations from a RAVODEX installation.

Keep the bundle record through each move

Define how bundle identity relates to material model, quantity, picking order and the loading record. A tag ID does not itself establish the remaining quantity after a partial pick. Ask the software provider to show how the record changes when a bundle is split, combined or relabeled.

  • Which record is updated when part of a bundle is removed?
  • How will a replacement tag retain the correct material and quantity history?

Test fixed and handheld tasks separately

The source describes fixed inventory collection and handheld confirmation at different steps. Write acceptance criteria for each task rather than applying one reading-distance target to the whole warehouse. Use actual steel geometry and packing density when checking missed observations and reads from neighboring bundles.

  • What boundary defines a stored bundle versus a passing bundle?
  • How will staff investigate a picking or dispatch mismatch before release?

Set the pilot acceptance boundary.

  • Test tag attachment, shielding and neighboring bundles using actual steel geometry and storage density.
  • Confirm identity-versus-quantity rules, crane/handheld sequencing and investigation of mismatched dispatch records.

Record the actual equipment, configuration, samples and results separately from these proposed checks.
